We were saddened to learn of the passing of long-time Carolina Region supporter, Marilyn Thompson, on June 27. Marilyn was a part of the Carolina Region almost from the beginning, receiving a Meritorious Service Award from the region in 1983. She served on the Carolina Region Board of Directors as both the Women's B Rep and later as Junior Girls Rep for many years. Marilyn served as the Region Scorer Chair from 2000 - 2017. In 2008, Marilyn was hired as the first Officials Program Director of the Carolina Region and held the position until her retirement in 2019. Marilyn earned her USAV National Scorekeeper Certification in 1994 and her USAV Junior National Referee certification in 1995. From that point forward, Marilyn mentored and trained countless numbers of adult and junior referees and scorers in the Carolina region.

Marilyn was a tireless supporter of volleyball in North Carolina for years and she will be missed. The Carolina Region sends its deepest condolences to Marilyn's family during this time and remembers her fondly.
